Black Snake Moan

I've never been much afraid of snakes. Until this evening when I went down to the rec room and saw this fellow at the foot of the steps.

The really nice young lady who came to the house from Fairfax County's Animal Control said that he was a male juvenile black snake. If he were mature, he'd be around 3 feet long and as wide around as a hot dog. I'm glad he was still a teenager.

Ewwwww. I try to love snakes, I really do. And when I find them in my garden I back off and let them do whatever they want, wherever they want. But I would not be pleased, an understatement, to find one at the foot of MY indoor steps. You get very high Buddhist marks for not hacking his head off. I assume the nice young Animal Control lady will release him in a nearby woods. Or did you decide to keep him as a pet?

Thanks for your support! My husband wasn't home when all of this happened and so when I called him to ask him what to do, he told me to "drop something big on it." Un unh. The Animal Control lady did release him in the woods nearby, after asking if it was okay to do so. Which made me wonder what happens to the snakes that people say no to. I guess they just drop them off in somebody else's nearby woods.
